Amex offers are one of my favorite features of American Express cards. These offers can be added to your card in your Amex online account and typically refund a certain amount of money at a certain store if you spend over a certain amount. For example spend $50 at X store, get $10 back. This obviously benefits Amex and these stores, because it serves as advertising for them, shop there once with an Amex offer and you may like it so much you continue to shop there! But still, wise consumers can save a lot of money by maximizing Amex offers.

Over the past couple of weeks multiple leaks have hinted at something quite incredible happening to the American Express Gold Card. First we had cardholders see 4x point earning rates on US restaurants and supermarkets show up in their accounts, and then after a couple of hours these rates disappeared (to be honest I think they did this on purpose to get people talking). Then we had leaked card images of the new metal cards, with a new rose gold variety, and many leakes about the revamped benefits of the card, supposedly being launched October 4th.

Earn 10% Back at Shoprite with Chase Freedom

I received an email this morning from Chase introducing a new promotion they are running, where they are allowing Freedom card holders to earn 10% back at Shoprite in October. Q4 5% earning categories for the Freedom card are Chase Pay, department stores and wholesale clubs. So you can get 5% when using Chase pay at Shoprite for the whole quarter. Ordinarily you wouldn’t be able to earn double cash back (5% for Chase pay and 5% for another category at the same time), Chase states this in their terms and conditions. But they seem to be allowing this with Shoprite on a limited amount of spending.

Visa and Mastercard Settle $6.2 Billion Lawsuit

Credit Card networks Visa and Mastercard have settled a lawsuit that alleges the two companies violated antitrust laws by fixing prices, specifically the fee a merchant pays when a credit card is swiped. This alleged price fixing benefitted the banks that issue credit cards in partnership with Visa and Mastercard at the expense of merchants.
