A Photoshop mock up

Citi recently stopped taking new applications for the popular Citi Prestige credit card, although has said in a statement that they “remain committed to the Prestige product and servicing our valued existing card members. We look forward to reintroducing the card for new card members in the near future.”

But rumors are now surfacing of a new Citi premium credit card that looks remarkably similar to the Chase Sapphire Reserve. Twitter user @ithacxa posted two images of what looks like a market research survey, the survey states: “we would like you to review a description of a credit card that a bank is considering offering,” and then goes on to describe a product called the Citi Explore.

Key Benefits of the Card

$300 travel credit

3x on travel and dining

Points worth 50% more when booking travel through Citi

Two other benefit options

10 Priority Pass lounge passes

TSA Pre/Global Entry credit

2x on fitness clubs and gym memberships

Or

Unlimited Priority Pass lounge visits, with up to two guests

TSA Pre/Global Entry

Annual fee: $450

So the key benefits of the card are exactly the same as the Sapphire Reserve and it is only the 2x on gym membership option that really shows any individuality on the part of Citi. This would still be a very competitive card, since it would be offering a whole lot more value for only $55 more a year than the Citi Thankyou Premier (after deducting the $300 travel credit), just like the CSR VS the CSP.

Yet it would be a shame to see this card take over from the Citi Prestige that does have the unique benefit of 4th night free at hotels (Citi revamped this benefit this year, making it easier to use too). But it is possible that the 4th night free benefit is costing Citi too much money, and they are now trying to follow in the footsteps of the Sapphire Reserve because they know the formula works. For me personally, although I think a product matching this description would be popular, I would like to see a little more uniqueness and individuality. Remember this is only a survey posted by a web user and even if it is genuine, the product may not be adopted by Citi in the end.

Amex Gold 4x Points on Dining Going Global

American Express is making a very positive change to the popular Gold Card on June 6th 2019. The card currently earns 4 Amex Membership Rewards points on dining purchases at U.S. restaurants and this benefit will now go global. So members will be able to earn 4x points per dollar spent at restaurants internationally, anywhere Amex is accepted.

5 Things to do once you get the Amex Gold Card

The new American Express Gold card provides a $120 per year dining credit that is dished out in $10 installments each month. The credit is valid towards the bill at Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse, The Cheesecake Factory, Shake Shack and towards spending on food delivery services Grubhub and Seamless. However you do need to enroll in the credit through the card benefits page in your online account.

Save Over 60% on Uber Rides (Amex Offer)

Amex offers are one of my favorite features of American Express cards. These offers can be added to your card in your Amex online account and typically refund a certain amount of money at a certain store if you spend over a certain amount. For example spend $50 at X store, get $10 back. This obviously benefits Amex and these stores, because it serves as advertising for them, shop there once with an Amex offer and you may like it so much you continue to shop there! But still, wise consumers can save a lot of money by maximizing Amex offers.
