Amex Platinum is a tier four premium travel credit card that comes with an extensive list of benefits as well as a $550 annual fee. In the past 4 weeks most banks have announced adding a range of new non-travel benefits to help customers see value in the credit cards that have travel-centered rewards:
- New Chase Offers: Up to 5X Points on Groceries
- New Citi Welcome Bonus and Expansion to Include Takeout and Groceries
- New Amex Bonuses and How to Get the Most Out of Your Membership While at Home
American Express has confirmed this week that it will also be offering up to $200 in statement credits toward Amex Travel purchases to select The Platinum Card® members.
Amex Platinum New Benefit Eligibility
Consumer Platinum card members who renew their cards between April 1 and December 31, 2020 are eligible for this credit.
Beginning in August 2020 through December 31, 2021, select consumer Platinum cards can earn a travel statement credit after they make eligible travel purchases through American Express Travel – the portal can be used to book flights, hotels, car rentals and cruises. The travel credit amount will be for $200, and prepaid bookings will trigger the credit.
This new credit is in addition to the card’s already existing $200 airline fee credit.
Amex Platinum Business Additional Benefit
American Express has also spruced things up for its Platinum Business card members:
- $320 in shipping and wireless credits
- $200 “appreciation credit” for select cardholders
American Express Business Gold card members might see additional benefits in the same categories as Business Platinum. Presumably, in a smaller dollar amount. This hasn’t yet been confirmed by Amex.
Temporary Benefits for Other Amex Cards
There are also new temporary benefits added to Amex Green, Delta Amex cards, Hilton Honors, Hilton Surpass, Hilton Aspire, Marriott Bonvoy and Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant. Benefits started on May 1 and include credits for streaming services, bonus points at supermarkets, hotel credits redeemable at restaurants, etc.
