The Citi Prestige Card
The Citi Prestige Card

Today US Credit Card Guide reported some of their readers saying they had talked with Citi Prestige reps on the phone and were told some new benefits are coming to the card. Here are the rumored benefits:

5x points on Air Travel and food, 3x points on travel, 2x entertainment, at the same time the 4th night free hotel benefit and $250 travel credit will stay.

If true the new 5x category could be seen as Citi competing with the American Express Platinum and Gold cards. The Platinum has 5x on airfare and the gold just added a 4x category for US restaurants. Both these cards have raised their annual fees over the past couple of years, so it is possible Citi could do the same with the Prestige. Entertainment isn’t a category other high tier credit cards usually give a bonus for, but it would make sense that cardholders would be attending Broadway shows etc… and would appreciate 3x back on the Hamilton tickets the Citi Prestige concierge just helped them buy!

These benefits are rumored to come online on November 9th 2018 or January 4th 2019, cardholders got two different dates from Citi reps. The Citi Prestige has been closed to new applicants since April 2018. But it has always been rumored to be coming back, with a possible re-launch happening at the end of 2018 or early 2019. If the new benefits are coordinated with a re-launch of the card, then the dates of November 9th 2018 January 4th 2019 would fit with that. So far there are no other details and remember this is only a rumor, but keep watching the Citi Prestige and perhaps exciting things are in store….
