The New Amex Gold Card to be a Metal Card? (Two colors Rumored)
Get your Gold and Rose Gold Cards
We have been covering the leaks about new features and benefits being introduced to the Amex Premier Rewards Gold Card. Based on multiple sources that contacted us who have heard information directly from American Express we can reasonably accurately say these new benefits will be introduced on 10/04/2018 and will include a $120 dining credit and 4x earning on US restaurants and supermarkets.
However there is some more information about the revamped gold card that may be interesting to readers, even though we don’t know how reliable the source is. Doctor of Credit reported that “according to sources familiar with the matter” the Premier Rewards Gold card will be renamed simply the “Gold Card.” There used to be two gold cards, the Amex Gold and the Amex Premier Rewards Gold. The regular gold isn’t available to new applicants, although you can get it as an authorized user card on a Platinum account. The Gold Card on the Platinum account actually earns points the same way the Platinum does, and I suspect it will be unaffected by these changes.
In addition to the re-naming, the card will apparently be made of metal and will be available in two colors: gold and rose gold (see our mock up above). This reminds me of when Apple first introduced different metallic colors of the iPhone 5, definitely a cool move. So if you can’t get your hands on Pharrell Williams’ one of a kind yellow Amex Platinum, this could be the next best thing.
The sign up bonus is rumored to be 25,000 points and there will be a sign up statement credit in the form of 20% back at US restaurants up to a maximum of $100. And the annual fee, which some had hypothesized would increase (I personally suspected an increase to $250 would be possible), is apparently staying the same $195.
None of these rumors are confirmed by American Express, but make interesting reading, and remember you don’t need to wait very long to find out, the new card will be released on October 4th.
