The Amex Rose Gold is Back – How to Get it
Last fall American Express revamped the Gold Card adding new point earning categories and a $120 annual dining credit, dished out as $10 per month. Amex also released the card in limited edition rose gold for three months, and it turned out the rose gold version was seriously popular, with American Express struggling to keep up with demand. Rose gold availability ended on January 9th 2019, but there is now a way you can still get the rose gold card if you missed it the first time and are not currently a cardmember.
American Express is making the limited edition rose gold available to those who apply through a friend’s referral link before 7/17/2019. In addition you will get an increased sign up bonus of 40k points (the regular bonus is 35k, although it is sometimes possible to get 50k through an Amex sponsored link or by using incognito mode on your browser), in addition the friend who referred you will get 10k points as well (up to 55k per year).
There were some other new benefits that came in together with the new rose gold availability. Amex made the 4x points on dining worldwide instead of U.S. only, which is definitely a big deal for frequent travellers.
They have also added Boxed.com to the annual $120 dining credit, which is strange since Boxed isn’t really a dining establishment or food delivery service. If you don’t know Boxed.com is a wholesale website – kind of like an online version of Costco. Even though it is strange and doesn’t really fit with the description of the credit, it is a very positive change, since there were many cardmembers in certain areas of the country that didn’t have access to any of the services that would trigger the credit (Seamless, Grubhub, The Cheese Cake Factory, Shake Shack, Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse). This was one of the major complaints that Amex received according to some representatives.
So if you are interested in the rose gold card find a friend who has any MR point earning Amex card and they can refer you. If you are already a card member you can now enjoy $10 per month off Boxed.com and 4x on international dining – just good luck finding a restaurant that accepts Amex in rural Scotland!
